Chapter 4

The Volcano of Moltara

Narrator Voice (warm like summer air, steady like a drumbeat):
The volcano did not sleep.
It breathed.

The Black Dragon’s Foot rested on a shelf of black rock inside Moltara’s realm, surrounded by rivers of glowing lava that pulsed like a giant heart. Heat shimmered in the air, but it no longer burned — it tested.

Alfie stood at the edge of the deck, looking out across the molten landscape. The glow reminded him of something familiar…
Not home — but summer.

🔥 Scene 1 — “A Summer That Feels Far Away”

Zorgabella drifted beside him. “Your thoughts are loud today, Alfie.”

He nodded. “I was just thinking… it’s Christmas where I am right now. Back on Earth.”

McDonalds perked up. “Christmas? With no snow?”

Alfie laughed. “Yep. Sun, shorts, swimming. We’re in Argentina — eating asado, staying up late, and everyone’s outside until midnight.”

As he spoke, the Dream Engine shimmered — and the lava world shifted.

Suddenly, the black rock beneath their feet rippled and cooled, forming wide red plains. In the distance, tall mountains rose, sharp and proud like the Andes. Warm wind carried the smell of grilled meat and woodsmoke.

Captain Skull Fire raised an eyebrow. “This land has rhythm.”

Cluckles nodded. “Strong footing. Good for training.”

🥋 Scene 2 — “Practice Doesn’t Take Holidays”

The ground beneath Alfie’s feet changed again — becoming smooth and firm, like a training mat laid across the earth.

Zigzag peeked out from his mohawk. “Ooooh. This dream’s got structure.”

Alfie smiled a little. “Sensei always says holidays don’t mean stopping practice. Just changing how you train.”

He stepped forward and began to move.

Slow at first.
Careful.

Front stance.
Balance.
A controlled kick — not high, but strong.

With every movement, the ground responded. Lava slowed. Cracks sealed. Fire softened into glowing embers.

Captain Skull Fire watched closely. “He’s not fighting the fire.”

Zorgabella nodded. “He’s working with it.”

Alfie paused, breathing steadily — just like karate.
Then his feet shifted… lighter now.

The ground beneath him rippled and turned to water.

🌊 Scene 3 — “Swimming Through Fire”

He was no longer standing — he was floating.

But the water was warm, glowing like sunlight on the ocean near Mar del Plata. Alfie kicked gently, then stronger — steady flutter kicks, just like practice.

“Freestyle arms,” he whispered, pulling clean and long through the glowing water.

Zigzag clung tight. “I did not sign up for volcano swimming!”

Alfie rolled onto his back — calm, controlled — backstroke arms slicing smoothly through dream-water as fire drifted harmlessly above like clouds.

Then he stopped… bent his knees… and kicked wide.

Frog kick.

The lava around them split, flowing away from the ship, creating safe channels through the volcano.

McDonalds gasped. “He’s swimming the fire away!”

Captain Skull Fire smiled slowly. “Resilience,” he said. “That’s what this is.”

🔥 Scene 4 — “Moltara Watches”

High above, in the heart of the volcano, Moltara watched.

Her eyes burned, but her expression had changed — no longer fury, but interest.

“This dreamer trains,” she murmured.
“Even in rest. Even in joy. Even in summer.”

She raised a hand, and the volcano responded — not attacking, but opening.

A path appeared, winding downward into the heart of the mountain.

Zorgabella inhaled sharply. “She’s allowing us in.”

Captain Skull Fire turned to Alfie. “Whatever comes next, lad… remember this. You didn’t overpower the fire. You endured it.”

Alfie nodded, feeling tired — but strong.
Like after a long swim.
Like after a hard training session.
Like the end of a big year… and the start of a new one.

Zigzag yawned. “Best Christmas dream ever.”

Below them, the volcano hummed — no longer angry, but awake.
