It was the week before Christmas in Argentina, and the air felt fizzy—like lemonade bubbles popping in the sunshine. Alfie and Dad were walking through a twinkly street in Buenos Aires when something very strange happened…
A soccer ball wearing a Santa hat bounced past them.
Boing!
Boing!
“Oi!” said the ball, in a very cheeky voice. “You’re late!”
“Late for what?” asked Alfie.
“For the Christmas Kick-Off, of course!” said the ball. “Argentina’s greatest sports heroes need help—and they’ve lost the Magic Christmas Whistle!”
Just then, three legends appeared from behind a glowing Christmas tree 🎄✨
First came entity["athlete","Lionel Messi","argentine footballer"], wearing a red-and-white striped scarf and juggling a football, a present, and a candy cane all at the same time.
Next was entity["athlete","Diego Maradona","argentine footballer"], floating slightly above the ground like a footballing Christmas ghost, winking and saying,
“Don’t worry, chicos… I’ve seen stranger things than this.”
And stomping in with muddy boots and a huge grin was entity["athlete","Agustín Creevy","argentine rugby player"], holding a giant sack of presents over one shoulder and a rugby ball under the other.
“Ho ho ho! Who left scrum marks on Santa’s sleigh?”
Suddenly—CRASH! 💥
The sleigh skidded across the grass, pulled by llamas instead of reindeer.
Out jumped Santa, fanning himself.
“Argentina is hot, amigos! And someone has stolen my Magic Christmas Whistle. Without it, Christmas sport will be cancelled!”
“Cancelled?!” gasped Alfie. “No soccer? No rugby?!”
“Never!” shouted Messi. “But we’ll need teamwork.”
Maradona pointed toward the glowing mountains far away.
“The whistle was last heard near Patagonia… guarded by a sneaky penguin who thinks he’s a referee.”
The soccer ball bounced again.
“So… who’s ready for an adventure?”
Alfie felt his heart thump with excitement. Dad smiled.
Christmas. Soccer legends. A referee penguin.
What could possibly go wrong?
And just as they took their first step toward Patagonia… the ground began to rumble…
